With the mission to bring affordable, renewable and sustainable solar energy products to off grid communities within West and Central Africa, Barefoot Power partnered with Centre for Grassroots Economic Empowerment (CGEE) Microfinance in Nigeria. The project has distributed Barefoot Go as a loan product to CGEE clients across all Nigeria. Since then, Barefoot Power has disbursed over 500 units within the 22 activated branches, through the Solar Nigeria Program.
Solar Nigeria Programme
Solar Nigeria was launched in 2014 to build the market for distributed solar energy in Nigeria. Solar Nigeria is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), and collaborates with other donors and Nigeria’s federal and state governments. The programme works directly with companies that manufacture, install, and finance solar energy systems in Nigeria.
The aim of the project is to deliver reliable energy for people in the North of Nigeria.
Presently Barefoot Power is working with 2 Entrepreneur and a Micro Finance Bank (MFI) as our distributing partner on Solar Nigeria Program (SNP).The Entrepreneur are Sosai Renewable Energy and A4&T Integrated Solution while Centre for Grassroots Economic Empowerment (CGEE) is our partnered MFI.
Centre for Grassroots Economic Empowerment (CGEE)
Centre for Grassroots Economic Empowerment Microfinance is a department of the Justice Development and Peace Commission with over 75 branches which renders financial services to women entrepreneurs and farmers in Nigeria.
In February 2016, Barefoot Power partnered with CGEE Microfinance to have access to their large client base for CGEE to disburse Barefoot Go as a loan product to their clients across all branches. Since then, Barefoot Power has disbursed over 500 units within the 22 activated branches. Barefoot Go 250 has helped light up so many homes and business through CGEE.
