More than 350,000 Ugandans will benefit with up to 70,000 Solar systems from Barefoot Power to be installed during March 2016 – July 2018 in Northern Uganda.
The latest announcement from the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and Barefoot Power to bring more smiles to thousands of faces as last week Mr Jesse Kamstra- Head of LWF Uganda, Ethiopia, Burundi and Mr Jackson Machuhi Managing Director of Barefoot Power Africa had a joint signing ceremony in Kampala, Uganda (picture below)
LWF signs contract with Bearfoot Power Uganda to supply solar products under the EU funded Teko-Wa project
During the ceremony, LWF and Barefoot Power announced the establishment of a partnership providing solar lighting and accessories in Pader, Kitgum, Lamwo and Agago districts of Northern Uganda and will progressively roll out during 2016.
The program offers Barefoot Power’s Solar Lanterns (Barefoot Go), Solar Home System Products (Barefoot Connect) and Home appliances such as digital TV. The program also includes installation in the user’s house and two years’ warranty. LWF provides financing and overall project leadership; Barefoot is responsible for supply, logistics, installation and aftersales care to consumers.
The program will provide safe renewable sources of lighting and power to households in Northern Uganda while offering full time employment to over 250 staff in sales, installation and ongoing technical support of the systems in the field.
Teko wa is the project running in partnership with LWF. The project is funded by EU and church of Sweden. The project involves dissemination of 60,000 solar units in 24 months (55,000 solar lanterns – Barefoot GO and 5,000 home systems- Barefoot Connect). The project is being implemented in 4 district of Northern Uganda namely Agago, Pader, Kitgum and Lamwo.

Our curious members of the public came to the Barefoot Power booth to make enquiries on the Barefoot Power products. Our Booth was situated in one of the bussiest streets in Kitgum town.
The first project beneficiary at Labongo Amida sub-county headquarter has her details captured by the Barefoot power team during the inaugural product dissemination under the subsidy model.
Barefoot Power Uganda had promoted the project activities through many radio channels to increase awareness and sensitizing the public on the project. These radio talk shows are held by Barefoot Power Uganda (project staff) in their respective districts of operation in the Acholi sub region including a radio talk show in one of the biggest radio station in Acholi sub-region, Radio Tembo located in Kitgum and Luo FM radio station in Pader town.
